Australia - move for another statewide ban on plastic bags

Plastic shopping bags look likely to be banned in at least one state under a plan to be tabled when parliament resumes next month.

Adelaide Now reports that West Australian opposition environment spokeswoman Sally Talbot announced today she would introduce a private member's bill to ban plastic shopping bags, of which it is estimated some 400 million are used in the state each year.

Urban Greenspace and Biodiversity event

Lancashire Biodiversity Partnership would like to invite you to an event based around urban biodiversity and greenspace.

The afternoon event will explore the potential and practicalities of embedding biodiversity in urban greenspace schemes, drawing upon organisations, expertise and case studies set to inspire us to build upon the already demonstrated aptitude in Lancashire.

Wednesday, 27th January from 1:00 - 4:15pm at the Barn, Berkeley Drive, Bamber Bridge, Preston.

Regional Action Workshop

Involving children and young people in policy and practice solutions for a sustainable and climate smart future.

The National Children's Bureau is running a free regional action workshop in the Northwest on the theme of involving children and young people in sustainable living and climate change agendas. The workshop will take place on the 9th of February, 2010, at the Penwortham Environment Education Centre, Preston. Starts at 10am and ends at 2pm.

Funding - Regional Support Summary

CLASP Funding
The next closing date for the CLASP Local Partnerships Small Projects Fund is Wednesday 6th January. Only 1 more funding round will follow (April 2010) and early applications are encouraged. At present significant funding remains available for innovative projects that will have strong benefits for the wider CLASP network, as well as the partnership receiving the grant. We are pleased to tell you that CLASP has recently had its funding confirmed through to March 2011 by the North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership and the programme is now hosted by Liverpool City Council.

New CLASP fund for LAs and LSPs

A new CLASP fund for NW Local Authorities and LSPs opens for applications today.
 
The CLASP Local Partnerships Small Projects Fund aims to: Increase the pace of delivery, develop leadership and encourage the effective co-operation of Local Authority led sub-regional and local partnerships to tackle carbon emission reduction and resilience to climate change, with a specific focus on NI 185, 186 and 188.
